Isaiah 9:6-7 A Child is Born!
2
Advent Series Hope & Light
Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,”
3
Isaiah 9:6 This is not an image of a child, but an actual being.
This child is a son. The incredible reason for this child's birth; He is born for our sakes; He is given to us.
4
Isaiah 9:6 Verse 6 “and the government will be on His shoulders”.
5
What kind of king is He? And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
6
What will His kingdom be like?
Verse 7 “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end”. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. Establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness. From that time on and forever. “The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this”.

J I Packer – Knowing God The supreme mystery lies, not in the Good Friday message of atonement, nor in the Easter message of resurrection, but in the Christmas message of incarnation. The really staggering Christian claim is that Jesus of Nazareth was God made man - that He took humanity without loss of deity, so that Jesus of Nazareth was as truly and fully divine as He was human.
8
J I Packer – Knowing God Here are two mysteries for the price of one - the plurality of persons within the unity of God, and the union of Godhead and manhood in the person of Jesus. It is here, in the thing that happened at the first Christmas, that the profoundest and most unfathomable depths of the Christian revelation lie. ‘The Word was made flesh’ (John 1:14); God became man; the divine Son became a Jew;
9
J I Packer – Knowing God the Almighty appeared on earth as a helpless human baby, unable to do more than lie and stare and wriggle and make noises, needing to be fed and changed and taught to talk like any other child. And there was no illusion or deception in this: the babyhood of the Son of God was a reality. The more you think about it, the more staggering it gets. Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as is the truth of the incarnation.

Michael Card, “To the Mystery”
When the Father longed to show/ A love He wanted us to know He sent His only Son and so/ Became a holy embryo No fiction as fantastic and wild/ A mother made by her own child The hopeless babe who cried/ Was God Incarnate and man deified That is the Mystery/ More than you can see Give up on your pondering/ And fall down on your knees.

Charles Wesley, “The Incarnation”
Glory be to God on high, And Peace on Earth descend: God comes down: He bows the Sky: He shows himself our Friend! God th'Invisible appears, God the Blest, the Great I AM Sojourns in this Vale of Tears, And JESUS is his Name.
12
Charles Wesley, “The Incarnation”
Him the Angels all ador'd Their Maker and their King: Tidings of their Humbled LORD They now to Mortals bring: Emptied of his Majesty, Of His dazzling Glories shorn, Beings Source begins to BE And GOD himself is BORN!
13
Charles Wesley, “The Incarnation”
See th'Eternal Son of GOD A Mortal Son of Man, Dwelling in an Earthly Clod Whom Heaven cannot contain! Stand amaz'd ye Heavens at This! See the LORD of Earth and Skies Humbled to the Dust He is, And in a Manger lies!
14
Charles Wesley, “The Incarnation”
We the Sons of Men rejoice, The Prince of peace proclaim, With Heaven's Host lift up our Voice, And shout Immanuel's Name; Knees and Hearts to Him we bow; Of our Flesh, and of our Bone JESUS is our Brother now, And GOD is All our own!
