An Affirmation: That Jesus of Nazareth Is the Messiah (2:22-36)
The Authentication of Jesus (2:22) The O.T. pointed forward to the miracles of Jesus (Isa. 35:4-6) Jesus was accredited by GOD through miracles Jesus had God’s stamp of approval – He is the Son of God! The Crucifixion of Jesus (2:23) The O.T. pointed forward to the crucifixion (Isa. 53; Psa Luke 24:25-26, 44-46; Acts 17:3; cf. 1 Pet. 1:11) The crucifixion was according to GOD’S plan (cf. Rom. 8: Pet. 1:18-20; Rev. 13:8) Their lawless hands crucified the Man approved by God

The Resurrection of Jesus (2:24-32) The O.T. pointed forward to the resurrection (Psa. 16:8-11) GOD raised up Jesus from the dead – It was part of His plan Testimony #1: Prophesied By David (2:25-31; Psa. 16:8-11) David foretold the resurrection (2:27-28) The prophecy was not about David’s resurrection (2:29) The prophecy was about God raising up the Messiah to David’s throne (2:30-31) Testimony #2: Witnessed By the Apostles (2:32) Jesus was raised from the dead (2:32)

The Exaltation of Jesus (2:33-36) The O.T. pointed forward to the exaltation (Psa. 110:1) “God has highly exalted Him” (Phil. 2:9-11) Testimony #1 of Exaltation: The Sending of the Holy Spirit (2:33) Testimony #2 of Exaltation: The Prophecy of David (2:34-35) Climax of the Fullness of the Gospel (2:36) Jesus is Lord = having ascended into heaven (Psa. 110:1), Jesus is the Lord enthroned as King, with all authority and sitting on God’s throne Jesus is Christ = having been raised from the dead (2 Sam. 7:12 + Psa. 16:10), Jesus is the Messiah, who has fulfilled all prophecies and sits on David’s throne
