1 Round Centerpiece Arrangement

2 Purpose: To create a round centerpiece.
This will be a round mass arrangement with the same flowers from our last design. Using appropriate mass flowers, foliage, and filler, we will be able to design a work of art with proper elements of design, following appropriate principles of art. The overall shape will be a dome (1/2 sphere). The design of this arrangement is a staple in the floral industry. The types or colors of flowers can change for many different themes or holidays, but the same steps apply.

3 Materials: 9 mass flowers ¼ bunch of Filler flower (waxflower)
5 stems of foliage: Leather-leaf Fern 3 stems of foliage: Tree Fern 1 container: single design bowl (or other 1/3 brick Floral Foam Accessories as needed for holiday or theme

4 Procedure: Insert floral foam into container.
Secure with waterproof tape. Cut foliage into smaller pieces for insert. For leather leaf, cut below the 4-5th segment of leaflets. Then, for each segment below the main center piece, cut into ‘wings’ that can be inserted. Each piece of leather-leaf fern should yield 3-6 pieces. For tree fern, cut into a single insertion or into 2 segments, depending on the overall quality.

5 Procedure, continued Place your mass flowers (carnations) around each of the 4 main points (think North, South, East, West) and then one in the middle center. This top center flower should be about 12 inches tall (this will dictate the side lengths, as the total overall shape will be a dome – so sides will be 6 inches each). The overall shape of all points should fit within the dome outline. See example. Fill in with additional flowers as available, until all 9 carnations are inserted. Fill in any voids with filler flower. Remember this should accent the main mass flowers, not overpower or hide them Add theme or holiday accessories as needed.

6 Remember to give each flower space. Do not crowd, but place closely.
Distribute the color around the arrangement if the design includes varying colors. Balance the color and texture through the entire piece. Texture includes the smooth and rough foliage and the filler flower. Place filler at varying heights to create depth in your arrangement. Finish any finishing touches to the arrangement so it is pleasing to the eye.

7 Prepare a work sample Take a photo of your finished design
Take notes of your steps in the design process, review any needed changes Consider constructive criticism What changes would you make next time? Disassemble the design in order to prepare for the next project
