THESEUS BY ADAM,DILION,CHRIS,TAMMY,KAYLYN

2 THE TASK BEFORE HE WAS BORN HIS FATHER LEFT HIM A SWORD AND PAIR OF SHOES UNDER A STONE. WHEN HE WAS BORN HE WAS A VERY STRONG CHILD, AND WHEN HE WAS OLD ENOUGH, HIS MOTHER TOOK HIM TO THE STONE AND HE LIFTED IT WITH EASE. AFTER HE AQUIRED HIS FATHER’S GIFTs HIS MOTHER TOLD HIM IT WAS TIME TO SEEK OUT HIS FATHER IN ATHENS. INSTEAD OF THE SHIP Given TO HIM BY HIS GRANDFATHER, HE TOOK THE HARDER WAY TO BECOME A HERO AS FAST AS HE COULD. he went to Athens by foot, KILLING ALL THE BANDITS ON HIS WAY TO ATHENS.

3 THE TASK CONT… WHEN HE ARRIVES IN ATHENS, HIS DAD PLANS TO POISON HIM TO KEEP HIS ROLE OF KING. MEDEA INFLUNCED KING AEGEUS, THESEUS’S FATHER, TO DO THIS. THESEUS PULLED OUT THE SWORD, AND HIS FATHER REALIZED IT WAS HIS SON AND KNOCKED THE POISON OUT OF HIS HANDS BEFORE HE DRANK IT.

4 The task (to kill the Minotaur)
Theseus told the people of Athens he would go to the Labyrinth for Athens, since Athens has been captured years earlier, and every 9 years they must send 7 maidens and 7 youths. When they reached the Labyrinth they would be devoured by the minotaur. Theseus offered to be one of the victims, and the people had no idea he was trying to go and kill the Minotaur. He told his father if he returned safely he would raise a white sail in his ship to signify he was safe. On the way to the Labyrinth, Mino’s daughter, Ariadne (Mino is the one who captured Athens years ago) fell in love with Theseus. She told him she would show him a way out only if he took her back to Athens to marry her.

5 In The Labyrinth Ariadne put down a ball of thread so they could retrace their steps out of the maze to escape when needed. Theseus came upon the Minotaur while it was sleeping. He battered the monster with his bare hands and killed it.

6 Returning to Athens Although the quest to destroy the Minotaur was successful, the return to Athens wasn’t as great. First, Ariadne became very sea sick. They stopped by at an island to catch a break. While she was on the island, Theseus was working in the ship, suddenly a storm carried him and the ship far out at sea. When he came back to the island, Ariadne was dead. The other story was that Theseus left her on the island and sailed away with out her and Dionysus found her. Then when he returned to Athens, he was sailing and about to land and forgot to hoist the white sail to let his father know he was okay. His father assumed he was dead and killed himself.

7 Events Theseus took his fathers place as king of Athens.
He wanted all people to be equal, and Athens became the happiest and best city, the one place in the world where people were self- governed. A democracy. A man Theseus helped tried to steal from him. When the man (Pirithous) was caught, Theseus only said, “all I want is for you to be my friend.” Pirithous died at his wedding when a battle broke out between people and centaurs.

8 Other events Theseus soon married Ariadnes sister Phaedra
Theseus had a son named Hippolytus who he sent to the southern city where Theseus had grown up. Aphrodite was angry and wanted to punish Hippolytus, so she made Phaedra fall in love with hippolytus. Phaedra seeing no help decides to die and let nobody know why. Theseus at the time was away from home, but Phaedra’s old nurse didn’t want Theseus to think anything bad about Phaedra. She went to Hippolytus and told him “give her life, give her love”. The love of any woman disgusted Hippolytus and ran to the courtyard yelling at the nurse saying that she was trying to make him betray his father. When theseus came back to return, people told him that Phaedra was dead. But a letter in her hand to her husband. Hippolytus came in the courtyard confused asking how Phaedra died and Thesues yelled at him, also saying Phaedra’s letter out spoke over Hippolytus. Hippolytus said he was innocent and said “may I die if I am guilty.” As Hippolytus was leaving, a chariot came from the water, Artemis told Theseus the truth that it was not Hippolytus but it was Aphrodite.

9 Theseus’s Death Theseus was upset that he lost his son cause it really wasn’t his fault. When Theseus died all the people built a monumental tomb to remember him, and all the ones who were less wealthy saw it and remembered someone who through his life had been the protector for the defenseless.

Doing tasks unimaginable for normal people in Athens. But theseus was driven to be great and he certainly was through the eyes of the citizens of Athens and other areas where they thought Athens was become the best city during the time.
