Barred Owls Wingspan 40-50 in. Weigh 1.4-1.8 lbs
Nest in cavities in trees Hunt for rodents, snakes, birds, mammals….. Pairs for life

Great Horned Owl Length is 22”, same as a hawk Wingspan 36-60”
May take prey 2 to 3 times heavier than itself. Rabbits and hares favourites. Eats all other owls but Snowy Owls

Northern Saw-Whet Owl 6.7 -8.6” long, wingspan is 22”
Plumage acts as camouflage Sit and wait hunters Will stockpile food for later

Snowy Owl 26 “ long with wingspan of 54-65” Active during day
Can pant to cool off Sit and wait hunters as well as in flight Will move along traplines

Pellets Owls don’t chew their food
Swallow things whole or pulled apart Cannot digest bones, fur, teeth, and feathers

Pellets Bird’s stomach has two parts
The first part has digestive juices, the second part works as a filter, holding back the indigestible parts Regurgitates these compressed parts (pellet)
