2 Barred Owls Wingspan 40-50 in. Weigh 1.4-1.8 lbs
Nest in cavities in trees Hunt for rodents, snakes, birds, mammals….. Pairs for life

3 Great Horned Owl Length is 22”, same as a hawk Wingspan 36-60”
May take prey 2 to 3 times heavier than itself. Rabbits and hares favourites. Eats all other owls but Snowy Owls

4 Northern Saw-Whet Owl 6.7 -8.6” long, wingspan is 22”
Plumage acts as camouflage Sit and wait hunters Will stockpile food for later

5 Snowy Owl 26 “ long with wingspan of 54-65” Active during day
Can pant to cool off Sit and wait hunters as well as in flight Will move along traplines

6 Pellets Owls don’t chew their food
Swallow things whole or pulled apart Cannot digest bones, fur, teeth, and feathers

7 Pellets Bird’s stomach has two parts
The first part has digestive juices, the second part works as a filter, holding back the indigestible parts Regurgitates these compressed parts (pellet)
