3 WebOS Introduction “A software platform that interacts with the user through a web browser and does not depend on any particular local operating system.” Web Operating Systems are also commonly referred to as Web desktops or Web tops. It is a multiple integrated built-in applications that allow the user to easily manage and organize her data from any location. The WebOS is a computing research project which started in 1996 at the University of California, Berkeley and Continued at Duke University, University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Washington The Web OS is first named as Hyper Office and then as My Web OS and then a year after it as been named as Web OS.

4 How to use Web OS Register An Account And Login To Web OS Web Site You OS It Is Very Similar To Other OS We Have Used

5 Why we use WebOS Its Portable, The WebOS attempts to unify our web applications to some extent, providing you with a single point of access through which you can utilize tools and services, store your files, and return to and from any computer on the planet. No hardware problems. We just need a browser and a internet connection.

6 Features available in WebOS
Open API: the typology of Application Programming Interface that it uses. Open-source: the possibility for users and developers to contribute to the enrichment of the WebOS by creating new applications and widgets. Integrated apps: the applications that the WebOS features by default (which could be a text editor, an instant messenger, etc.) Audio-video Player: the availability of a media player within the Web OS.

7 Photo editing tool: the availability of a tool that allows the user to edit images.
client: the presence of an client. Instant Messaging: the availability of an integrated instant messenger. Calendar: the existence of a calendar. Collaboration - Conferencing tools: the presence of online collaboration tools (such as VoIP, web conferencing tools, etc.)

8 Mini-Browser: the integration of a web browser.
File storage: the amount of space – if available – to store files online. File sharing support: the support for file sharing with other users. Desktop Search: the presence of a desktop search engine within the WebOS. Games: the availability of games within the WebOS.

9 Types of WebOS There are many WebOS.
AstraNOS, BeDesk, cmyOS, Desktoptwo, DoxBoard, GCOE X, eyeOs, Glide, G.ho.st, goowy, jooce, mybooo, myGoya, OOS, Parakey, Psych Desktop, Purefect Desktop, SSOE , StartForce, Xindesk, Webdesk, Webdows, Widgets Gadgets, YouOS, ZimDesk, DesktopOnDemand, Free Live OS Zoo, Nivio.

11 Web OS Versus Tradition Single PC OS
Web OS PC OS Technology: AJAX +FLASH c /assembly Built on : any other OS directly on hardware Internet : online on browser offline is ok Application : installed on server installed on local disk Security : volatile safe File System: wide areas file system ntfs,fat32,ext2,ext3

12 LG WebOS

13 Features available in lg WebOS

14 LG webOS TV is designed to be obvisously simple, so that it is easier to learn and more fun to use. Now, all you have to do is relax as webOS makes the TV experience simpler than before You can switch to any app, broadcast or connected peripheral without navigating to a dedicated ‘home’ screen. Instantly find your entertainment right on your Launcher.

18 Benefits of WebOS Enabling mobile work - G.host allows the growing number of mobile workers to take their desktop layout, applications and essential files wherever they go, regardless of the computer they use to access the web. Overcoming the firewall - Being stuck behind the corporate firewall, or facing network restrictions at schools, offices and libraries can be frustrating. In principle, G.ho.st allows users to access what has until now been unaccessible. Effective file management - Rather than having your data scattered about the web with a vast range of services, the web OS promises to make it easy to store, sort and access all of your files wherever you go from a single networked tool.

19 Empowering non-PC owners - While some of us take having a laptop for granted, there are others whose main point of access is through Internet cafes or public libraries. For these people, having to 'start from scratch' every time can prove very tiresome. With a web-mobilized operating system, this ceases to be an issue Integrating services - Through effective partnerships with existing service providers, which G.ho.st has been very proactive about forming - it is possible to introduce such benefits as a single sign-on process, taking the pain out of logging in and out of multiple accounts every time you go online

20 Security and Authentication
WebOS Security model Step1 : users transfer some portion of their access rights to webOS server when attempting to access a remote resource Step 2: WebOS servers communicate using SSL Step 3: The remote server checks if the proper credentials are held in local ACL’s

21 Applications Internet chat Remote Compute Engine
Wide area Cooperative Cache Internet Weather Cloud storage Cloud gaming Software testing (across different platform) Troubleshooting

22 1 Occupies little hard disk space
Advantages 1 Occupies little hard disk space 2 Occupy small CPU resources 3 Can be obtained at any OS with web browser Disadvantages 1 easy to be hacked 2 can not be obtained offline 3 can not program on the local hardware so USB disk and CDROM can not be used. 4 more bandwidth is needed for multiple programs to run simultaneously 5 server crashes.

23 Conclusion Extending server functionality onto client machines allows for more flexible implementation of name resolution, load balancing, and fault tolerance. Simplifying the implementation of a number of wide area applications. Web os is a new technology, it still has its share of problems. But it has a great future!
