2 Can You Blush? Jeremiah 6:15

3 Can You Blush? The practices of Israel and Judah were shameful
Idolatry was shameful, yet openly practiced (Jer. 11:13; Hos. 9:10) Their unfaithfulness was like adultery (Jer. 3; Hos. 2:5) Yet, they were not ashamed They did not know how to blush (Jer. 6:15; 8:12) A “shameless nation” (Zeph. 2:1; 3:1-5; Jer. 3:3)

4 Can You Blush? Reformation revealed how bad things had become
During Hezekiah’s reformations, Levites were ashamed (II Chron. 30:15) Only punishment would make them feel shame When God punished them, they would be ashamed (Isa. 1:28-29) Daniel acknowledged that their guilt and punishment were deserved (Dan. 9:8) Ezra was ashamed to address God (Ezra 9:6-7, 15)

5 Can You Blush? Sin is still shameful
Outside the church (Eph 5:11-12) Inside the church (I Cor. 5:1-2; 6:5) People are often not ashamed of sin Comparing oneself to others (Luke 18:9-14) Focusing on the good, ignoring the bad Becoming desensitized to sin By habit (Eph. 4:17-19; I Tim. 4:2) By the world (Rom. 12:2; II Peter 2:7-8)

6 Can You Blush? Strong teaching and discipline may be necessary
Peter was blunt (Acts 2:36-37) The church must act when a member refuses to repent (II Thess. 3:14)

7 Can You Blush? We can be forgiven of our shameful actions
Our hearts must be soft enough to feel the pain of guilt (Acts 2:37) We must be willing and obedient (Isa 1:18-20; Acts 3:19) God will remember our sins no more (Heb 8:12) Consider where sin leads (Rom 6:20-21) How do you feel about your sins?
