2 JL47 PERIPHERY, MILD DETONATING CORD
Department of Defense Identification Code (DODIC): JL47 Technical Data: Nomenclature: Periphery, Mild Detonating Cord Part number: National Stock Number (NSN): Quantity per assembly: 1 Service Life: Shelf Life 96 months (8 years) Install Life 48 months (4 years) Aircraft: T-6A, T-6B, and T-6D Function: The Mild Detonating Cord (MDC) is used to fracture the AFT canopy transparency periphery during emergency egress Current Ordnance Information System-Retail (OIS-R) stock posture at NSWC IHEODTD is zero stock Conventional Ordnance Discrepancy Report (CODR) Lot number: MSV15G

3 Issue and Status IHEODTD Received a CODR from CTW-5 Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting field: Upon opening CAD and during inspection mechanic noticed excessive build up on charge ends. During pre-lay procedures it was noticed that build up would not allow proper positioning/lay of Det cord and manifold to lay flat during installation to canopy glass

4 Issue and Status IHEODTD issued 7 JL47s from Lot MSV15G to CTW-4 Corpus Christi and CTW-5 Whiting Field CTW-5 Whiting Field Received 3 JL47s and could not install their JL47 Periphery, Mild Detonating Cords CTW-4 Corpus Christi received 4 JL47s and could install all Mild Det Cords on their canopies IHEODTD inspected 11 JL47s on hand from this lot and determined all 11 Cords had excessive epoxy on the charge ends. We can not validate inability to install without a canopy to check on All available JL47s from MSV15G were sent back to contractor for repair The Contractor and IHEODTD are working on a repair procedure to inspect and determine what Cords can be repaired or not. The unrepairable Cords will be scrapped and replaced with a future lot (September 2018) Delivery of repaired JL47s will be delivered to IHEODTD by June 2017
