The story of Miami The first Europeans arrived and settled at the begining of the XIX century. After the Second Seminole War ( ), William English created the Village of Miami. Julia Tutle, a wealthy woman, bought a lemon plantation and thought Miami has great potential. It will allow Miami to grow. She is called the mother of Miami. The city experienced a demographic boom in the 1920s through gambling. But, in 1926 a cyclone struck the town and killed lot of Miamians and left lots of others homeless. Julia TUTLE William ENGLISH

The story of Miami The coming to power of Fidel Castro in Cuba causes the immigration towards Miami of half a million Cubans in Florida. Half of them moved to Miami. More than 60% of the people living in Miami are of hispanic origins. Miami Downtown and Miami Beach … and today

The geography and economy of Miami.
Miami is on the same latitude as Taïwan and the on the same longitude as Ecuador. She is between two national parks, Everglades and Biscayne. Miami is located on a coastal plain. Between 1910 and 2014, the population was multiplied by 8. This boom can be explain by the immigration of lot people coming from North and South America. They are attracted to the city because of the activities of the harbour (tourism and business), and because of the weather. Arts are also very important.

A large port city. The port of Miami is the world's largest port for cruise ships and he is one of the largest haulage port of the USA. The city is sometimes called “ The Gateway of the Americas”. Miami is a big seaside resort where lot of tourists go every years.

Miami’s architecture: the MiMo.
The MiMo architecture or Miami Modernist architecture is a typical style of architecture of South Florida. This style appeared during the post-war period. It’s a regional style who was created in opposition to the international style.
