High-Energy String Models
Alberto Ribon FTF & QGS High-Energy String Models G4 Fritiof (FTF) model is a phenomenological model expected to be valid up to ~ few TeV G4 Quark Gluon String (QGS) model is a theory-driven model expected to be valid to slightly higher energies than FTF If it follows Kaidalov's theoretical prescriptions: under scrutiny by Vladimir Uzhinsky To go to higher energies For LHC 7/8 TeV -> 13/14 TeV, and even more for TeV Need to include hard and semi-hard parton interactions (i.e. jet production), which is currently missing in G4 FTF & QGS Examples on how this is done: e.g. HIJING, DPMJET, etc.

Technologies and Tools
Session Link Technologies and Tools C++11 and beyond. What is in it for you? Potential feature of interest for near term use in G4 OpenGL: widespread use in G4 Vis Used in most drivers, including Qt, X, Xm, Win32, Wt Use v1.x mostly in G4 (very old) – much deprecated Radical changes in 2.x, and beyond: v3.0 and 4.0 Experience with profilers – Andrea Dotti Gooda, Vtune and cutting-edge TAU tool Templates for Optimisation & Vector. - JA
16
Computing Performance CMS
New ‘picture’ Improvements’ Total improvment
17
G4 EM Review & Performance
Number of small CPU improvements Inlining (+/-), reduced divisions Using exp/log from VDT RNG – use vector call, cache engine pointer Innovative use of TAU profiling tool To improve Issues of design Report available
18
Expanding testing Extend G4 tests to Xeon Phi with SLAC
19
Comparing against reference physics output in Ctest
New infrastructure! Enables testing against reference data in ctest Important – but not a silver bullet The tool is now there Must choose tests Configure the ‘error’ threshold Understand how to use effectively

G4based Radiation Dosimetry on GPU
Sh. Okada for KEK / Stanford Univ. ICME / SLAC Microscopic-level validation Macroscopic validation Adjusted production cut to CT value Found better (rather good) agreement with Geant4 9.6p02 (baseline) Fixes, Refinements 2x speedup
25
Outside the meeting
26
In this corner of the globe ..
Super Typhoon Vangfong – from the space station this past week!
27
Storm - Typhoon: is it moving towards us?
Super Typhoon Phanfone Categ. 4 neared Okinawa Fri-Sat 2-3 Oct; 200 kph sustained winds Lessons: Weather really matters Z= zulu = UTC = GMT Okinawa (main island) Followed up this weekend Super Typhoon Vongfong Cat 5 – strongest typhoon of 2014, Wind 240 kph
