Things to think about Is your child ‘school ready’ when they leave home each day? Do they understand the importance of being totally focused on their learning when they are in school? Are they expected to do more than just their homework? What rules do you have about their use of laptops/ipads/mobiles? If the answer to any of these is no/none, what can you do about it?

Top tips… Have a set routine. Know what your child is studying.
Know how they are studying it. Be aware of what is going on in school. Keep the target relevant. Be the adult!

How does the poet view schooling and the education system?

How can you help? Home learning Check they are completing home learning tasks to the best of their ability to secure their understanding. Discuss what you child has been learning – quiz them about the content and themes of the poems Supporting sensible decisions about effort. Avoid the dangers of too little or too much work. Check work In a supportive manner, do not just accept it has been done. A purposeful and calm environment. Internet access No distractions No social media
