7. Reading
Pupils read a wide variety of material, both fiction and non-fiction from class and school library.
They discuss and question content for greater understanding.
Pupils continue to develop their sight vocabulary, their phonic skills and their use of the reading cues to further improve reading ability.
They begin to use dictionaries, atlases and the internet for further information on class topics.

8. Writing
Planning for and using a wide variety of writing frames: eg. lists, stories, poems, recipes, reports, etc.
Focusing on correct use of punctuation; using capital letters, full-stops, questions marks, exclamation marks and commas.
Structuring a sentence, showing good use of grammar.
Learning to sequence a story with a beginning, middle and ending.
Building confidence in spelling by ‘Having a go’ and developing phonics skills through Read, Write, Inc.
Encourage the use of new words and the correct spelling of key words.
