2016 Audit of Schools Participating in NSWM’s Human Services Management Certificate Program

2 The Network for Social Work Management (NSWM) partnered with 14 Schools of Social Work to conduct the Human Service Management Competencies Certificate audit. Six (6) of the 14 schools had previously participated in the certificate program audit, with eight (8) of the 14 schools participating for the first time. Schools matched their courses, field/internships, and other educational and experiential opportunities with domains, competencies, and objectives set by the NSWM.

Number of students receiving certificate in 2015: Number of students receiving certificate in 2016: 132 394 All participating colleges and universities met or exceeded the guidelines set by the NSWM to achieve competency within the Human Services Management Certificate Program.

5 Participating schools engaged in an audit process to demonstrate their compliance with the four domains undergirding NSWM’s management competencies: 1) Executive Leadership, which includes 11 competencies with 73 objectives; 2) Resource Management, which includes 4 competencies with 23 objectives; 3) Strategic Management, which includes 5 competencies with 23 objectives; 4) Community Collaboration, which includes 1 competency with 4 objectives.

6 To be proficient in a domain, at least 75% of the objectives comprising the specific domain had to be addressed through curriculum, field/internship, or other educational and experiential opportunities.

8 The objectives within each domain could be met using any of these three (3) methods:
Curriculum Examples include but are not limited to: coursework on a variety of topics specific to each domain, with lectures and/or labs. Field/ Internship Examples include but are not limited to: field seminars, learning assessments, learning agreements, and supervised field placement. Other Examples include but are not limited to: legislative advocacy, research projects, social media, additional concentrations, workshops, portfolios, and consulting projects.

26 Our Next Steps Assess usefulness of certificate to students and employers- DATA!!! Expand Certificate in US and internationally. Continue to reinforce the necessity for management training of social work and human service leaders!
