Take Advantage of Technology
The Options are Endless…..
4
Good data – it’s the key. Having good data in your internal systems allows you to take advantage of other data sources to find anomalies, do electronic uploads, compare your data to public data, extract information to create documents, schedules, etc.
5
Make good use of PDF documents
Make good use of PDF documents. Create documents in Word or Excel, save as a pdf document, to others, and file electronically. Save numerous hours and countless trees. Programs exist that can convert PDF documents to Word, Excel, etc., so that you can work with the information.
6
Become familiar with Microsoft Access
Become familiar with Microsoft Access. You can use it to connect to various data sources, both internal and/or external, to compare or validate data. Set up reports/templates to pull information directly from your internal systems to create land schedules, notice letters, assignment documents, etc.
7
Take advantage of the different ways to work remotely
Take advantage of the different ways to work remotely. For example, login from home or anywhere through Citrix or similar programs. Set up your iPad to access all of your apps at work. Pretty cool to be able to log into your Land System on your iPad.
8
Microsoft Excel Make it work for you.

Using a formula to quickly change the format of unique well identifiers (uwi’s).
I received the list like this: I need it to look like this:
10
Insert a new column where you want the new uwi format.
11
Enter the formula and copy it down.
12
Voila!!
13
Use the same procedure with different formulas for different formats and results.
I started with this: I used this formula: Now it looks like this:
14
Some formulas can be long – keep a reference file and copy & paste.
