Acid rain is a major cause of the water pollution problem in the Great Lakes. Water Pollution can kill animals and plants. When the Cuyahoga River flowed into Lake Erie it was so polluted that it caught fire. This resulted in a lot of attention, in 1972 the U.S. and Canada signed the Greta Lakes Quality Agreement pledging to clean and preserve the Great Lakes ecosystem.
