to identify different sentence types (compound and complex) use a variety of sentence types for clarity and effect

3 The bottom line… Experienced writers use a variety of sentences to make their writing interesting and lively. Too many simple sentences, for example, will sound choppy and immature while too many long sentences will be difficult to read and hard to understand. 

4 MATCH THE WORD WITH THE DEFINITON AND EXAMPLE

7 Copy the following sentences in your books and next to each say if they are simple or compound sentence. The sky was full of stars but I could not see the moon. I could hear wolves howling in the distance. She felt petrified in the darkness. They could not tell what the creepy sound was. The house stared at them from the top of a misty hill. My body froze and my heart started beating faster. Grey clouds hung high in the sky. I felt scared so I changed my mind and took the other path.

9 Let’s review Individual task: Look at the paragraph you wrote last lesson. Try to include at four compound sentences in your work. I see plants on the ground yet I see no flowers. The silvery moon is in the sky… The huge mansion is spooky… There are shadows everywhere…
