Area and Population Area of Spain is 504,782 km²
50th biggest country in the world A lot of islands belong to Spain (for example: the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands) There live 46,087,170 people in Spain. Religion is Catholicism.

Origins of the people Spanish (or Castillians)- 73 % Catalans- 18 %
Galicians- 3 million Basques- 2 % And immigrants, the most from West and Central Africa. (Immigrants like Moroccan, Ecuadorian, Romanian, Colombian and other foreigners like British, French, Argentine, German and Bolivian) - But in years 1960 to 1975, they had a lot of emigrants. There are problems with minorities. For example the violence against minorities from their police.

Languages The main language is Spanish, it is a Romanic language
But in areas where minorities live, they speak Catalan, Galician, Basque.

Head of State Spain is a parliamentary monarchy.
The head of state is king Juan Carlos I. (from year 1975). He is from royal family of Bourbons.

Cities Madrid is the capital city of Spain. In Madrid there live 3,000,000 people and there are lots of history relics. Barcelona is the second biggest city in Spain and Barcelona is an important centre of industry and mining. There live 1,600,000 people in Barcelona. Valencia lies on river Turia. In Valencia there live 800,000 people.

Discoveries Spanish explorers were the most important in the world.
Their biggest discovery is: Discovery of America. From their voyage they brought lots of important information (for example new spices, potatoes and metals).

Bullfighting Bullfighting is a traditional spectacle of Spain.
Bullfights are divided into 3 phases. In 1st phase they must enrage a bull. In 2nd they must hurt him. And in 3rd they must kill him. Some people consider that a brutality toward animals.
