1 Year 12 Meet the Tutor Evening
Welcome Thank you to PSA for coming this evening Names to faces – staff/families Daughters been here nearly 4 weeks Hope they are happy Proud of daughter’s achievement Look very smart – one day their uniforms will fit!

3 In 2016 we were the top performing school - state or private- in Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch and the top performing state school in Dorset & Hampshire

4 GCSE success 2016 100% pupils gained 5 or more passes at C or above including English & Maths 74% of girls gained 5 or more A/A*s 66% of all exams passed at A* or A

5 Success at A level this year
73.35% grades at A*-B 99.4% subject pass rate A-E 6 places at Oxford and Cambridge All our 8 medics and 4 vets holding offers secured their places

6 Some key messages Do your best because your best is good enough
Your best may look different to someone else’s best It’s ok to fail - it is only by making mistakes that we can improve Intelligence/ability are not fixed- with practice/effort/grit they can be grown and developed We are all in this together!

As much notice as possible - in advance! Please don’t assume absence will be authorised! Make sure your daughter catches up Certainly not at exam time

Term 1 Settling into a new tutor group (and possibly a new school). 4 (and for some) 5 subjects in Year 12. Focus on Study Skills Many opportunities to get involved from music, drama and sport to mentoring, volunteering and being a subject ambassador Publication of ALPs target grades Progress check 1 Parents’ Evening (Tuesday 6th December)

Modular (Unreformed) A levels Further Mathematics Mathematics Media Studies Politics D&T Product Design (3D/Graphics) D&T Product Design (Textiles) AS unit marks (Year 12) are added to A2 unit marks (year 13) for the full A Level Two-year Linear A Level Courses Art and Design English Literature Not possible to take a standalone AS qualification due to the nature of the course content.

January 2017 Visit to Bournemouth University campus March 2017 Post-18 Options Evening at BSG April 2017 Higher Education Convention at Bournemouth University Taster courses, residential preparation courses (MEDSIM, Sutton Trust etc) June Future Planning Conference - Open Day visits in Summer and Autumn terms Oct Work with tutors to prepare Personal Statement - Early applications (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science) by October 15th January All other UCAS applications by January 15th Preparation for interview. Interview practice sessions. August A level results published Sixth Form and Careers staff available for help and support

23 Possible Challenges Studying less subjects in greater depth
Harder work and more of it. More independent learning expected/take responsibility for own progress Taking risks/moving out of their comfort zone Expectation on self/related to a career Greater independence (learning to drive/part-time job) Need to gain relevant work experience for future plans Increased social opportunities
