The National Focus President Obama’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) Steering Committee 2.0 5 work groups within the AMP initiative: Transformative Technologies National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) Scale-up Policy Image of Manufacturing Demand–driven Workforce Solutions Marsha Dr. Parker served on President Obama’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee 2.0 and led the national initiative on demand driven workforce solutions. SCC wrote a 15 million dollar consortium grant with the same focus areas

Create seamless career pathways in advanced manufacturing that offer stackable and portable credentials. Create/Update academic programs in advanced manufacturing to match employer needs by aligning industry recognized credentials within pathways. Develop long-term collaborative partnership with manufacturing employers. Improve job placement and retention through learner support and wrap around services. Anne An Establish employer-driven apprenticeships and dual training programs Provide professional development for employers and other stakeholders to instill the value of industry credentialing Enhance the image of manufacturing and raise awareness of high-wage jobs Improve Job Placement & Retention— Implement a plan that emphasizes intrusive advising and job placement services Improve basic academic skills through integrated education (FastTRAC) and occupational English services Seamless Pathways— Implement a core curriculum that directly aligns with the Certified Production Technician Certification awarded by Manufacturing Skills Standards Council Develop a consistent competency-based approach to award credit for prior learning that aligns with national industry standards Collaborate with MnSCU Centers of Excellence to expand/refine articulation agreements Update Academic Programs-- Align curriculum with National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) endorsed credentials (NCRC, MSSC, NIMS, PMMI and AWS.) Engage employers, faculty, and other stakeholders in development of course content, coursework, and learning experiences

Career Pathways Anne Help move adult learners (Adult 1 = ABE/Low level learners, 2 = Traditional Students, 3 = incumbent workers or vets through CPL) in to meaningful, industry-relevant educational pathways and ultimately into the workforce. History of Skills Certification
The Manufacturing Institute established a consortium of partners to align industry certification to an Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model, the result is the Skills Certification System. The System aligns industry competencies to manufacturing education and career pathways. Why Certifications Matter…. Opportunity to elevate and standardize the programs offered by community and technical colleges across the country. Credentials also carry a prestige that conveys respect on both those individuals that have earned the credential and the occupations that demand it. Anne

Benefits of CPL Marsha CPL is proven to increase retention rates. In 2010, CAEL did a survey of over 62,000 adult students at 48 institutions who were 25 years or older and they found that students who earned college credit for what they already knew were more persistent, took more courses, and decreased time to degree completion. Finally students who earned CPL were two and a half times more likely to graduate.
