4 Categories Junior Science or Technology Project
New Entrants – Year 6 students individual project (1-2 people) a team project (3+ people – can be a whole class) Intermediate Science or Technology Project Year 7 and Year 8 students a team project (3+ people) Secondary Science or Technology Project Year 9 to Year 13 students

5 What goes on the boards? These pictures are on the website under FAQ tab for you to download – board dimensions are on the left hand side of the pictures

6 What the judges will be looking for:
Technology innovation a cyclic approach to their project (design, modify, evaluate) a view to the future (ie, product development) Ownership Science A well thought out method and conclusion that are related to the hypothesis Solid data gathering and analysis of this data A view to the future (ie, possible spin off investigations) Judges also like to see … an authentic reason for a project, not just a copy of an experiment off the web. For example, in a technology project it might be a special tool that will make gran’s life easier . In a science project it might be a curious observation of an insect that triggered a thorough investigation into its habits. creative problem solving and curiosity

7 Forms required for August registration and entry:
Authenticity Certificate Media Release form Liability Waiver Approval Form &/or Animal Ethics (if appropriate) NB Please do not enter projects that did not apply for or gain required Approval and/or Animal Ethics. We don’t like sending kids home saying they can’t be entered. These forms will be ed to you in August, although they will also on the website for you to download

9 Approval forms Complete Approval process in plenty of time!!
All approval forms must be received by 20th May 2017 to enable you enough time for a great project, you can send in approvals forms from today Approval must be obtained BEFORE project/part of project begins (including surveys) Standard forms – potting mix, survey We’re here to help – please New School Microorganism form New food development form example

10 Animal Ethics This is a national group (volunteers) – this is not MSTF
Meet 22 May and 19 June 2017 Must gain approval BEFORE project begins See their website for details

11 Time line - phases Phase 1 (suggest Term 1/early Term 2) Plan project Phase 2 (possibly Term 1, definitely early Term 2) Gain Approval/Animal Ethics as required (note dates) Start project (after gaining required Approval/Animal Ethics) Phase 3 (suggest Term 3) Finalise & display project Enter School Fair Phase 4 (early Term 3, before 17 Aug) If successful, school enters your project into MSTF Prepare board for MSTF, fill in required forms, etc

12 Allocation Meeting (teacher rep): 3 August
Entries submitted – by 7 August via Entries brought to Barber Hall August Judging at Barber Hall - evening - 18 August Award ceremony at Huia Centre - Aug 19
