2 About SEA CLLSD The logo of the Southeast Asia Centre for Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development (SEA CLLSD) is a stylized presentation of the anahaw leaf, a plant which is very common in ASEAN countries. The core represents the shared dreams and vision on lifelong learning for sustainable development towards poverty alleviation, prosperity and peace in ASEAN. The colored stokes represent the eleven ASEAN member countries.

3 About SEA CLLSD Established by virtue of an Agreement between the Philippine government and UNESCO in 2009, the Southeast Asia Centre for Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development SEA CLLSD promotes education in the context of sustainability and lifelong learning. The framework resonates with UNESCO’s initiatives in education and sustainability, as articulated in Education for All (EFA) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

4 About SEA CLLSD Our dream SEA CLLSD envisions a just and compassionate society where opportunities for learning for sustainable development are available to all, especially to the marginalized and disadvantaged sectors of society and non-school mainstream learners in hard-to-reach areas of the country.

5 About SEA CLLSD Our mission is to be the regional centre for advocacy, research-innovation, training for lifelong learning for sustainable development through collaborations among service providers and experts on life-long learning and sustainability in Southeast Asia.

About SEA CLLSD Our institutional tasks: Capacity-building for service providers in the field of lifelong learning for sustainable development; Research to advance opportunities for and improve the quality of lifelong learning for sustainability Advocacy to develop public awareness and appreciation for the existence of learning/education possibilities for sustainable development, in a variety of social settings and places.

Our primary target groups and beneficiaries are: underserved communities or people in areas that are geographically remote from learning centres. vulnerable groups, such as the very young, other special learners and the disadvantaged and displaced populations and communities-- indigenous peoples and cultural minorities, out-of-school youth, non-literate adults and the elderly, and victims of disasters and natural calamities.

9 The development of strong inter-sectoral partnership between and among public and private entities is a key component in SEA CLLSD programs. SEA CLLSD develops linkages with various groups and institutions across the Region in the planning and conduct of its activities. By banding together, the ASEAN countries are able to share resources and expertise in reorienting the thrust of their education goals towards a stronger appreciation of the principles of lifelong learning and sustainable development. . Regional Workshop on Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development: Vision, Policy, and Practice in ASEAN Countries, 2008, with the participation of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR. Malaysia, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and, South Korea 2. Nationwide focus group discussions (FGDs) with government agencies, local executives, NGOs and community groups. 3. Consultative meetings with ASEAN countries in 2007 and 2008– Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei Darusallam, Malaysia and Singapore 4. Regional Consultation Cum Mapping on the Establishment of the SEA CLLSD (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Timor Leste, and Vietnam) 5. Conduct of three ASEAN region training programs: Learning for Change, a Pre-school Teacher Training for Southeast Asia to Promote the Benefits of Education for Sustainable Development – 50 pax Education in Emergencies and Disaster Risk Reduction (EiE/DRR) for Sustainable Development: A National Workshop, in partnership with UNESCOBangkok (70 pax) Education for Sustainable Development in Philippine World Heritage Sites (Iloilo, Ifugao, baroque churches: workshops cum visits in 3 WH site (180) pax 2. Participation in various fora – Open Education Resources conducted by UNESCO Bangkok in April 2012. Learning for the Future: Educating for Sustainable Development, ASEAN Community Building Conference Science and Technology for Art (START) 3. Continuing dialogs other SEA countries on LLL and ESD-- Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand , Vietnam, Cambodia 4. Participation in DepED and NGO capability-building initiatives for indigenous peoples 5. Proposal preparations on LL: ASEAN, Kyoto University, and NCCA 6. Organizational tasks—Executive Ratification, Senate Concurrence, others, 7.Planning 2013 activities 14.

About SEA CLLSD: Some Challenges: Programmatic: - ESD has different meanings in different settings and contexts of ASEAN Member States -The degreeof implementation of ESD initiatives also varies Organizational - unique institutional personality—not part of the UNESCO organizational structure unlike Category1 centres…fully-funded by the Philippine government -As a new Philippine instrumentality, presently encounters growing pains in terms of organizational structure, systems building, instutitional cradle,and funding 15
