2 Top considerations when travelling
Pre-departure planning Safety starts with you Know what to do in an emergency Knowing the area/location and what issues that area might be having during your travel time (health, food, terror, civil unrest)

3 Your Responsibilities
Know before you go! Learn about all health & safety issues within your destinations. Study the cultural and political climates. Follow directions and advice of program directors. Communicate with program directors regarding issues related to health and safety.

4 Activity 1 Get into small groups Write down your 5 top concerns
Have one person from your group, write your concerns on the whiteboard

5 Before You Go Make copies of all important travel (passports), bank/cards, contact information, etc. and leave with family. Prepare and review your student’s personal budget. Your student is required to register with your embassy aboard using the STEP program. Have copies of the following with you in a secure location separate from the originals: Passport – This is the MOST IMPORTANT document you will have with you! A person without a Passport is a person without a country! Insurance Card Flight Information Contact information for bank/credit card (Inform your bank you will be out of the country!!) Leave copies of the following with your primary emergency contact in the U.S.: Identification documents (Driver’s License, Passport, etc.) Insurance Contacts Medical Information Your contact info while abroad & contact information for bank/credit card

8 SU’s Emergency Response
Program directors are prepared to handle emergencies and have training before departure. Each GO short program has a safety & security plan, which is shared with students. All GO Long and GYOW are required to attend a health and safety workshop. Program Providers all have their own emergency plans. In the event of an emergency or disaster, Susquehanna monitors and is notified of issues domestically and abroad. All students are required to check in during emergencies
