COLLEGES WANT: A strong transcript! - Challenging Classes
- Strong grades, High class rank, High GPA Extracurricular, Athletic, and Community Involvement Interesting essays and strong recommendation letters Personal Interviews may be offered and are a good way for the college to know you as a person

TIMELINE FOR APPLYING During 11th grade … spring semester:
Take SAT or ACT Visit schools you are interested in Make a list of schools to which you wish to apply in fall During 12th grade … fall semester: Complete the FAFSA starting October 1st Decide on application deadlines & apply ON TIME Take SAT or ACT a 2nd time if needed During 12th grade … spring semester: Look for financial aid and scholarship options

APPLICATIONS - OUR ROLE
Submitting transcripts Completing and sending Secondary School Report (SSR) or Counselor Report Writing letters of recommendation for colleges that require it or allow it – if the students wants one Remember: We DO NOT send test scores with transcripts. Please request SAT scores at collegeboard.com and ACT scores at actstudent.org

COLLEGE APPLICATION OVERVIEW – YOUR ROLE
Complete the FAFSA beginning October 1st for Financial Aid eligibility Find colleges that would be a good match and apply to them online (their website, Common App) Submit transcript request form (including details of what the college needs for a complete application) to the PVHS Counseling Office Take SAT or ACT and submit scores directly to colleges Apply for Scholarships (Winning scholarships=Free $$)

PVHS COUNSELING DEADLINES
Transcript requests must be turned in to the Counseling Department at least 2 weeks prior to each college deadline. For December 1st college deadlines, submit your transcript request form by November 11th Because of the holiday break in December, for early January application deadlines, you MUST submit your request to your Counselor by Wednesday, December 7th. The College Forms link will be on the PVHS website on the home page AND from the School Counseling welcome page.
