8. College Admission Basics
The stronger the college preparatory courses you complete in HS, the more likely you’ll succeed in college.
All UW campuses require a minimum of:
4 English credits
3 Math credits
3 Natural Science credits
3 Social Science credits
4 Elective credits
These are minimum requirements and some campuses require more. Check college websites for specific requirements.

9. Application process for college
Best to apply in September through November of your senior year.
Complete college applications online:

Double-check college application deadlines (November – May)
Letters of recommendation are often not required

10. Registration Deadlines
ACT Test
All college-bound students should take the ACT or SAT test in the spring of junior year.
Register online at:
Cost is $42.50 (ACT No Writing) or $56.50 (ACT Plus Writing)
Marquette and University of Minnesota require writing test.
Must request test scores be sent directly from ACT to colleges
ACT fee waiver available for students who qualify, please contact your counselor.

12. ASVAB, ACCUPLACER, SAT
ASVAB: Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
Good for career exploration
Required for military entrance
Juniors had the opportunity to take ASVAB back in October
Contact your local military recruiting office for more testing times
ACCUPLACER: Moraine Park Technical College entrance test.
Cost $10
Offered to HUHS juniors on March 21, 2017
ACT score can be used instead of taking ACCUPLACER
SAT: to register
Cost $43 or $54.50 w/ essay
Test dates: May 6 (Register by April 7), June 3 (Register by May 9)

13. Funding College Financial Aid
Financial Aid Night at HUHS during senior year.
Can submit FAFSA application after October 1, 2017
Types of financial aid: grants, loans, work-study, scholarships.

15. Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship is post-secondary education like a college or university. However, apprentices learn only a portion of their skills in a traditional classroom, usually provided through the Wisconsin Technical College system.  They receive most of their training on- the-job, while working for an employer who pays a good wage. The employment is the primary requirement for an apprenticeship - a job must exist in order for the apprentice to be trained.
