9 What is FERPA? The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974
As amended ( and sometimes referred to as the Buckley Amendment), is a federal law that protects the privacy and education of all students enrolled in schools beyond the high school level. Schools are required to maintain the privacy, primarily by restricting release of records and the access provided to those records. Any educational institution that receives funds under any program administered by the U.S. Secretary of Education is bound by FERPA requirements. Institutions that fail to comply with FERPA may have funds administered by the Secretary of Education withheld. For more information about RCCD and FERPA please visit:

12 Concurrent/Dual Enrollment
Known as “concurrent enrollment,” but also commonly known as “dual enrollment.” For the first time in California's Education code the term “dual enrollment” is identified to define “special part-time or special full-time” students – that is, high school or other eligible special admit student enrolling in community college credit courses. These terms have no difference and are used interchangeably in California. (Ed code Section 76004) The term “concurrent enrollment” is not found in California Education Code.
