4. Expectations at Graduation
Graduation is a formal ceremony and should be treated as such.
Students must be on time for all practices and for graduation.
Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

Each club has its own requirements for earning stoles, cords, etc. that can be worn at graduation.
It is each student’s responsibility to make sure that he/she is meeting all requirements.

1. Never come to school on time.
2. Don’t do the Senior Research Paper.
3. Go to breakfast at Waffle House or Chick-fil-a instead of going to first block.
4. Never, ever study.

Don’t wait! Final grades in May (no time then for recovery to graduate)
Credit Recovery—as part of student’s schedule during the day; must pass to graduate
Ombudsman—Night School (full or part time) and Project Graduation
Performance Learning Center (PLC)—alternative day program, application process

19. VALEDICTORIAN & SALUTATORIAN
The Valedictorian is the student who is ranked #1 academically in the senior class; the Salutatorian is the #2 ranked student.
A core numeric average is calculated and extra points are added for Honors, AP, and DE courses.
Final calculations for Val/Sal are not done until all grades are in after senior finals in May.

21. Financial Aid Night Financial Aid Night for parents/seniors:
Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, 6:30 p.m.
A representative from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will be present to help you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); based on 2016 tax returns.
This includes HOPE information.

ACT: College Admissions (see Mrs. Walker-Harry if you think you may qualify for a fee waiver)
SAT: College Admissions (be aware of new registration rules and new version of the test)
ACCUPLACER (replaced Compass): Technical College admissions. Students can sign up with Ms. Walker-Harry in the Career Center to take this test.
ASVAB: Test given by the military

PROGRAMS—
Scholarship—3.0 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP) calculated at the end of senior year; covers a percentage of the tuition (see website); no money for books or fees. Also need to have taken four rigorous courses.
Zell Miller—3.7 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP), 1200 SAT verbal & math, four rigorous courses, covers full tuition, calculated at end of senior year; no money for books or fees.
Grant—available for students seeking certificate or diploma at a Technical College; covers percentage of tuition.

26. Student Brag Sheet
A resume of the student’s activities, academics, honors, and awards during high school; blank form given to all seniors.
Seniors need to keep one on file in the College & Career Center (we may use brag sheets to help identify students for potential scholarship opportunities).
It is never too late to develop a Student Brag Sheet.

27. Application Process Complete applications online.
Include Student Brag Sheet if required.
Include teacher/counselor recommendations if required.
Attach check or make on-line payment for application fee (payable to the college) or include fee waiver.
There is a $3.00 processing fee for each transcript (see Mrs. Walker-Harry for official transcript).

ACT/SAT scores are not included with the transcript; schools require that scores be sent directly from the testing agency. Do this when you register to take the test. Colleges look for best scores.
Allow 3-5 days for turnaround.

29. College Visitation Days
Students get two days to visit campuses.
Student must have an appointment with the admissions office at the college.
A note from a parent MUST be turned in to Mrs. Walker-Harry at least 3 days prior to visit; students will receive a college visit form.
Students must take the form to each teacher to be signed.
The admissions office at the school you visit must sign the college visit form.
Bring the signed form back to school the next day to your first block teacher so the absence is excused.

30. SCHOLARSHIPS……
There is no magic pot of money at the end of the rainbow.
Researching and applying for scholarships takes a lot of time and effort on your part.
We will give you resources on where to look.
It is the student and parent’s responsibility to find scholarships that the student may qualify for.
