Buddy Training Program
A collaborative friendship between School-Community Based (SCB) Program and volunteer 3rd graders Sherwood Elementary Jenny Fleming, School Counselor and Alicia Callan, SCB Teacher

Identify ways to play and include all students Develop schedule for lunch/recess interaction opportunities

SCB Students’ Abilities
All students can communicate - pay attention to body language. All students can feel emotions - notice expressions. What do you notice? How is she feeling? How can you tell? Let’s practice

SCB Students: Talking to them
They are listening They might not respond Tell them your story anyway! What are some things you could talk about?

Role Playing Scenarios
You see a student playing with a hula-hoop and you want to join them. What might you do to join them? You notice a student climbing on playground equipment by themselves. They stop climbing for awhile, look around, and then sit down, looking sad. What do you think you could do to join them?

Schedule Sign-up Expectations Sign-Up
As a volunteer, you are agreeing to work with the group you sign-up with today, once a week, on the day you have agreed to. You are not able to switch groups after today or to “sub”/”trade” days. If you decide you do not want to participate in the buddy program, you need to tell Mrs. Callan/Mrs. Fleming Sign-Up Pass around the schedule and sign your name next to the area you would like to volunteer in (lunch/recess), under the day of the week.
