1 En classele 21 mars La question Les objectifs: Understand question words / phrases Form accurate questions Take a risk!

2 Travaillez tout seul: Without your book / vocab list, try to write down as many question words as you can in 1 min. Travaillez à deux: Without your book / vocab list, try to combine and extend your list in 2 mins. Travaillez à quatre: Without your book / vocab list, try to combine and extend your list in 4 mins.

3 Using your language detective skills, work out the meaning of these question words given in context. Quand est-ce tu rentres? Qui a cassé la fenêtre? Quelle est la date? Quels sports aimes-tu? Où est la salle de bains? Comment ça sécrit? Pourquoi pleures-tu?

4 Reliez les questions françaises avec leurs traductions anglaises: Quand? Qui? Quelle? Quels? Où? Comment? Pourquoi? Which? How? When? What? Why? Where? Who? These words are known as interrogative adverbs! Quel has 4 forms as it must agree in gender and number with the object its talking about which is which? quel quelle quels quelles

5 Just like in English there are different ways to ask questions! To turn a statement into a yes / no response question put > into the beginning of the sentence: Est-ce que tes bananes sont jaunes? Are your bananas yellow? To answer yes to a question containing a negative use > > >

6 If your question begins with what… use > > What do you eat in the evening ? OR > You can start the question with > but you must invert the subject and the verb ie swap the order of tu and manges and add a hypen -

7 In English you swap the subject and the verb to form a question… statement Icango. subjectverb question CanIgo ? verbsubject

8 In French its the same! All you need to do is add a hyphen Est – elle partie?Has she gone? Peux - tu maider?Can you help me?

9 You can also create a question by raising your voice at the end of a normal sentence to show its a question… Tu as des frères ou… …des soeurs?
