Market Research Before a company even considers publishing a new magazine, it first researches the market viability of doing so. What type of magazine do people want to read? What Demographics would be interested? What do people want to read in their magazines?

Surveys and Studies To answer these questions, publishers will conduct surveys to identify a Target Audience. These surveys take several forms: ‘Vox Pop’ questionnaires – literally stopping people in the street and asking them to fill in a multiple choice survey Focus Groups Case Studies – researching the readership of other magazines

Vox Pop Surveys Create a list of 15 questions to ask in a questionnaire. The questions need to be designed to identify a target audience, so consider age, income, activities, expectations of magazines, etc.
