CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN DURING POLLING FOR ERRORS DISPLAYED ON VSDU AND CU
69
FAULT HANDLING APPLICABLE DURING POLLING
Three kinds of faults can possibly occur in VVPAT systems: Case 1: When CU is switched ON, VSDU has blank display, but power ON lamp is OFF Case 2: VSDU power ON lamp is ON and VSDU displays blank (no error message) and CU shows “Link Error” on press of Ballot button on CU. Case 3. There is an error message on VSDU and CU shows “Link Error” on press of Ballot button on CU.
70
CASE :1 When CU is switched ON, VSDU has blank display and power ON lamp is OFF. Turn off the CU. Check the cables connecting all units. Fix them if loose and then turn on the CU. In case, VSDU power ON lamp lights up and sequence of power ON messages appear on VSDU, wait for messages to end. Continue Poll , in case there are no error messages on CU and VSDU. In case, VSDU power on lamp does not light up, then put OFF CU and replace VVPAT and VSDU.
71
CASE :2 Corrective action when CU shows link error and blank display (no error) on VSDU, but VSDU power lamp is ON Switch off CU. Remove and reconnect the BU cable on VVPAT. Remove and reconnect the VVPAT cable on CU. Switch on CU. Wait for the sequence of Power ON displays on CU & VSDU to get completed. Now press BALLOT button on CU. If still link error persists, install new EVM system as per EVM connection procedure. Else if error indication vanishes, continue the Poll
72
CASE :3 Corrective actions when CU shows link error and VSDU shows an error code In case of a fault, error message (as shown below) appears on the VSDU and CU, only when Ballot button on the CU is pressed ERROR CODE MESSAGE ON VSDU Message on CU CORRECTIVE ACTION 01 LOW BATTERY LINK ERROR CHANGE VVPAT BATTERY 02 NO PAPER REPLACE VVPAT 03 LOW PAPER 04 CHECK SYSTEM SWITCH OFF & THEN SWITCH ON CU 05 PRINTER ERROR
73
CASE: 3 (Contd…) Note: 1. During Mock Poll or Actual Poll, for error code 02, 03 and 05, VVPAT must be replaced. While changing VVPAT Battery and/or replacing VVPAT, CU must be switched OFF
74
ERROR CODE- 01 LOW BATTERY
2 1 3 On press of Ballot key on CU, if “LINK ERROR” is displayed on CU and error code 01 displayed on VSDU along with sequence of messages as shown below. Switch off CU, Remove the VVPAT Battery. Insert a new Battery in VVPAT. Switch on CU. After power on sequence, continue Polling. ERROR CODE-01 LOW BATTERY CHANGE BATTERY
75
ERROR CODE- 02 NO PAPER 2 1 3 On press of Ballot key on CU, if “LINK ERROR” is displayed on CU and error code 02 displayed on VSDU along with sequence of messages as shown below. Switch off CU, Replace VVPAT. Switch on CU. After power on sequence, continue Polling. ERROR CODE-02 NO PAPER LOAD PAPER
76
ERROR CODE- 03 LOW PAPER 2 1 3 On press of Ballot key on CU, if “LINK ERROR” is displayed on CU and error code 03 displayed on VSDU along with sequence of messages as shown below. Switch off CU, Replace VVPAT. Switch on CU. After power on sequence, continue Polling. ERROR CODE-03 LOW PAPER CHANGE ROLL
77
ERROR CODE- 04 CHECK SYSTEM
2 1 3 On press of Ballot key on CU, if “LINK ERROR” is displayed on CU and error code 04 displayed on VSDU along with sequence of messages as shown below. Switch off CU and then Switch on CU. After power on sequence, continue Polling, if the error disappears. Otherwise the VVPAT has to be changed.. ERROR CODE-04 CHECK SYSTEM RESTART SYSTEM
78
ERROR CODE - 05 PRINTER ERROR
1 2 3 On press of Ballot key on CU, if “LINK ERROR” is displayed on CU and error code 05 displayed on VSDU along with sequence of messages as shown below. Switch off CU, Replace VVPAT. Switch on CU. After power on sequence, continue Polling. ERROR CODE-05 PRINTER ERROR CHANGE PRINTER

After mock poll and just before the start of the main poll, perform the following steps. Clear the CU Empty out the ballot slip compartment Seal the ballot slip compartment
84
PRECAUTIONS (2) Following indications need to be observed after replacing VVPAT and after switching on the CU. Power On LED on VVPAT is turned ON. Power On Self Test (POST) slip gets printed, gets cut and then falls into the collection box. Power On LED on VSDU glows. Status of the VVPAT battery is displayed on VSDU. Ensure that the battery status is either High or Medium only. After completion of the “power ON display sequences” on CU and VSDU, EVM is ready for ballot operation.
