1
The rubbing of one object or surface against another.
Friction The rubbing of one object or surface against another.
2
Panda falling! You could not walk without the friction between your shoes and the ground. As you try to step forward you push your foot backwards.
3
To be continued... Friction holds your shoe to the ground allowing you to walk, consider how difficult is to walk on slippery ice, where there is little friction
4
More about friction! In some situation friction is very important and beneficial, there are many things you cannot do with out the force of friction.
5
Writing: Writing with a pencil in your hand without friction, it would slip out when you tried to hold it to write. The graphite led pencil will not make a mark on the paper without friction. A pencil eraser uses friction to rub off mistakes written in pencil.
6
Driving a car: Your car wouldn’t start moving without friction, if it wasn’t for the friction of the tires against the street. With no friction, the tires would just spin. Like wise, you couldn’t stop without the friction of the brakes and tires.
7
There's actually four types of friction!
9
First type! Rolling friction- a force that slows down the motion of a rolling object along a surface. This is usually less than the force of sliding friction.
10
Second type! Static friction- Force applied to an object but does not cause the object to move. The forces are balanced.
11
Third type! Sliding friction is very effective at opposing the movement of objects.
12
Forth type! Fluid friction is when a body moves in a fluid or in air then there exist a resistive force which slows down the motion of the body, known as fluid frictional force.
13
Summary!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friction is necessary in many applications to prevent slipping or sliding, but also, it can be a nuisance because it can hinder motion.
