Alpine Tundra Biome By: James Maciejewski, Jared Tomac, Ryland Ponto, and Jake Jackowski

2 Remember… Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires
Botany The Alpine Tundra consists of dark- colored perennial plants that offer great scenery. What’s interesting about these plants is that they absorb heat by catching the sunlight and converting it into heat. These plant also grow close to the ground in order to stay away from the wind. The Alpine Tundra does not contain any trees because of the high altitude but it is home to plants called succulents. Succulents are plants with waxy leaves that store water. Remember… Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires

4 Zoology The alpine tundra is home to many unique organisms that are only found in this biome. If you would like to see one of a kind animals, this is the place to be. The animals that live in this biome have adapted well to the cold climate. Most of the animals are not friendly enough to interact with, BUT they make for great picture opportunities. Animals that live here include: Caribou Snowy Owl Arctic Fox Mountain Goats Pika

5 REMEMBER, PLEASE DON’T FEED THE WILDLIFE!!
Zoology Caribou offer real-life experiences of Santa’s reindeer year round. Snowy Owls and Pikas provide cute picture opportunities of these adorable little critters. Arctic fox and mountain goats are also common in the tundra. But be careful because they can attack if you provoke them any such way. Most of the animals that live in the alpine tundra are herbivores because the availability of plants are more convenient than other organisms. REMEMBER, PLEASE DON’T FEED THE WILDLIFE!!

7 Weather/Climate The average summer temperature ranges from 40°F to 60°F. The average winter temperature ranges from 0°F to 20°F. It is usually quite windy which would give that gnarly wind-blown-hair effect for all of your vacation pictures. If you are a bonfire enthusiast, then this weather is perfect for you. Despite it not being a good 80°, there is still a lot of sunlight for one to work on their tan. It does not rain a whole lot so that means you’ll usually be able to go and do your plans for the day without worrying about rain.
