I take photos and know where to find them I search and download apps I like to use I know how to reconnect the wireless on my mobile device if it switches off I know when the device needs recharging

6 How we learn now Since 2001 schools have undergone a quite revolution:
Technology has been a part of student’s learning with tools like IWB, laptop trolleys, iPads and other mobile devices, interactive tables, etc. while many traditional universities ignored this trend in the beginning and are only now catching up. Quakers Hills Public School

9 What challenges are coming our way
Students are more tech savvy than most of their academics Are used to get immediate answers or seek immediate responses to questions They have access to ways to compare and evaluate information quickly. They expect information to be relevant, accurate and easy to find They use their social “network” to seek advice

10 What challenges are coming our way
They value good IT infrastructure They value good service They will find it difficult to adapt to a world that is out of sync with the way they work and interact They work better in an informal environment They need to be connected Their day is not 9 to 5

The Horizon Report Higher Education 2014 highlights a series of key trends, among those: Growing Ubiquity of Social Media Integration of Online, Hybrid, and Collaborative Learning Shift from Students as Consumers to Students as Creators

“Growing Ubiquity of Social Media” Tensions between the widespread use of social media in personal lives and the use of social media in teaching/learning. Need to understand and appropriately provide guidelines for the use of social media

“Integration of Online, Hybrid, and Collaborative Learning” The old model of teaching will not work for much longer. Administrating multimodal delivered courses will require a more flexible approach.

“Shift from Students as Consumers to Students as Creators ” New role for libraries as spaces/services that support creativity and production. Student managed spaces to create, collaborate, share.
