67 miles wide / we’re in the middle of greatness!

4. WHY IS THIS ONE SO SPECIAL?
38 years since we’ve witnessed a total solar
eclipse over the U.S. mainland.
99 years since we’ve witnessed a total solar
eclipse from coast to coast.
1st time in recorded history that a total solar
eclipse:
- will only be visible from the U.S.;
- will be accessible to millions within hours, and;
- will occur in an industrialized country in the
age of social media.

5. THE KENTUCKY ECLIPSE
NASA officials project ,000 visitors along the 140 mile eclipse path in Kentucky.

6. MADISONVILLE’S ECLIPSE
“Totality” begins at 1:24pm, lasting 1 minute and 47 seconds.
Partial eclipse phases will last approximately 3 hours (Noon-3PM).
We estimate approximately 30,000 visitors over the weekend: 20,000 friends/family of residents and 10,000 travelers from communities to our North such as Evansville, Owensboro, and Henderson.
Expect visitors to begin to arrive on Thursday with a flood of day-trippers on Monday.

8. Considerations for Business
All Businesses:
Employees
Traffic congestion will increase commute times and traditional meal spots will likely have long wait times.
Advise employees to gas up their vehicles early in the week and bring meals from home.
Many will want to witness the eclipse with family and friends.
Anticipate higher than average sick days.
Consider flex schedules.
Consider releasing non-essential personnel or even closing for eclipse day.
Deliveries / Mail
- Traffic may delay or prohibit deliveries.
- Consider stockpiling inventory early in the week.
- Making deliveries to customers will be difficult. Allow extra time. Ensure
delivery and company vehicles are gassed up by Thursday.
Customers / Clients:
- Anticipate cancelled appointments and reduced business.
Tech: DON’T DEPEND ON HAVING CELLULAR SERVICE!

- Store extra inventory.
Incent employees to show up and put on their A-Game.
Schedule crucial deliveries at night or early morning hours.
Don’t depend on deliveries on eclipse day.
Consider additional temporary staff for the weekend.
Anticipate that your business will double or more.
Consider extending hours over the weekend to maximize financial impact.
Consider capacity of equipment, such as ice machines.
Grocery / C-Store
- Stock up on “picnic items,” sodas, bottled water, bagged ice, and
propane.
- Schedule gasoline deliveries at night or early morning hours.
Sanitation:
- Extra dumpster service will be available from Madisonville Public Works.
