Risk factors of this disease are water supply, environmental sanitation, and personal hygiene. Sanitation is generally related to the sanitary condition and appropriate provision of facilities and participation of the target population in garbage disposal, wastewater disposal and safe human waste disposal. The Facts are … According to Suwandi (2011) at Ngabang, Landak, West Kalimantan, in general the parents of elementary student have 2 types of latrines, ordinary and floating latrines because their lives in a river’s tidal area. Suwandi found there were soil transmitted helminth egg’s in soil around their living area and the prevalence of helminth infection was among elementary students was 28%. On the other area, where the geographic condition is very different, according to Fauziah (2009) at Bulak, Surabaya, East Java the prevalence of helminth infection was 14,6%. However, Suwandi and Fauziah found that the environment sanitation was a dominant factor for helminth infection. In these two areas, the family of elementary student at Ngabang, Landak, West Kalimantan had no appropriate provision of waste water disposal (68,42%) and latrine (64,91%). Conclusion Health education programs in schools can contribute directly to a student’s ability to successfully adopt and practice behaviour that protect and promote health and avoid or reduce health risk, especially soil transmitted helminths infection. Different to the notion before, this is a really new idea, health education in school is design for empowering school community to prevent the soil transmitted helminths infection through a collaborative partnership that includes students, parents, community members, and the school staff. School community have to encourage for empowering the elementary students to initiate their community actions. The elementary student not only as an object but also encouraging them of being subject as peers educator in preventing soil transmitted helminths infection through better drinking water quality, environmental sanitation and personal hygiene.
