The cell cycle is disrupted resulting in too much cell division
As a result of cells divide too quickly = tumors

5. Types of tumors Benign Malignant
Abnormal mass of cells remain at original location
Malignant
Abnormal masses of cells move normal cells and grow and move beyond their original location
This movement is called metastasis

7. Treatment Chemotherapy
Chemical agents to stop cancer cells from dividing
Interrupt cell cycle before M phase
Problem: Can’t tell the difference between cancer cells and normal cells = destroys other fast growing cells
Hair and blood cells

8. Treatment
Radiation
Energy (Ionizing radiation) kills cancer cells and shrinks tumors
Injures/destroys cells by damaging genetic material so they cant grow/divide
Problem: Damages both cancer and normal cells but most normal cells can recover
Ovaries/Testes
