Use this PowerPoint to help you deliver a Red Nose Day assembly in your school. It will help pupils understand why they are fundraising and inspire them to raise money for Red Nose Day 2017, which is on Friday 24th March. This is a readymade assembly designed to last 15 minutes. There are prompt questions in the notes that you can use if you would like to extend the presentation or make it interactive.

Fun and fundraising We’re going to have lots of fun…
…and raise loads of money to change lives in the UK and Africa This year’s Red Nose Day we’re going to do all sorts of fun activities to raise money that will make a real difference to ordinary people, living incredibly tough lives, in the UK and across Africa.

It’s important to know why we’re fundraising
Here’s Hassan’s Story Watch the film at rednoseday.com/hassan Show your pupils this short film about Hassan, a 12-year-old boy from Freetown in Sierra Leone, Africa. Hassan became an orphan when his mother died of Ebola. But the good news is a project funded by Red Nose Day cash is helping him. Street Child Sierra Leone has enabled Hassan to continue going to school by helping to cover his school fees and providing him with a backpack and books. The film will help your pupils understand the challenges faced by children in Sierra Leone and how money raised for Red Nose Day helps. You should be able to stream the film from this presentation by clicking on the play button. Please ensure that external content is enabled. If you experience any problems with this you can download the film (or stream it) at rednoseday.com/hassan What do you think would be the hardest thing about Hassan’s life? How is money raised by Red Nose Day making a difference to Hassan? How might going to school make a difference to his future?

How will our money make a difference
In Africa, £4 could fully vaccinate a child against five deadly childhood diseases. £3 could pay for a counselling session for a child who has lost their parents to Ebola in Sierra Leone. In the UK, £10 could provide three days of nutritious hot meals for a homeless young person. As you’ve seen from the film, Red Nose Day money changes lives for the better. That’s why so many people across the UK come together to fundraise for Red Nose Day. And that’s why we’re going to do our best to raise as much money as we can.
9
So what shall we do this Red Nose Day?
If you already have plans for Red Nose Day, share them with the pupils now. People all over the country are going to be doing fun things to raise money for Red Nose Day. What shall we do? There are so many fun things to choose from. How about dressing up as a red nose, a talent show, getting sponsored to take on a challenge, or organising a bake sale?
10
We can’t have Red Nose Day without a Red Nose
We can’t have Red Nose Day without a Red Nose! Which one would you like to get?
11
Together we can make a difference
So don’t forget – Red Nose Day will take place on Friday 24th March. Let’s all do our best to raise as much money as we can!

What else could your money buy?
In Africa, 70p could pay for life-saving treatment for a child with malaria. In the UK, £10 could help a young person caught up in gang culture, to turn their life around with professional mentoring. £10 could enable an isolated elderly person in the UK with dementia to attend a local support group.
