4 MGA Operations Manual IB&SC Scope
IB&SC reports to the Member and Geographic Activities Board through the MGA Treasurer. (Bill Kennedy R7) Responsible for formulating and recommending to the MGA Board programs for individual member benefits and services; Monitor, coordinate and advise on such programs ; Review and recommended non-technical member benefit programs developed and submitted by organizational units of the IEEE.

6 What is FAP? FAP’s Mission is to enhance the value of IEEE membership
Financial Advantage Program, also known as Non-Technical Member Benefits FAP’s Mission is to enhance the value of IEEE membership Offer a broad range of cost-saving and value-added products and services that address the non-technical needs of IEEE members and their families. Leverage the buying power of IEEE’s membership, in order to provide products and services that give members clear advantage over non-members. To provide a non-dues revenue stream to offset the dependency on association dues for all members.

Members with group insurance must maintain IEEE membership to qualify Policing of membership recovers dues in arrears every year Since 1997 policing has recovered: 2856 memberships An average of $ per member $559,096 in dues

The Personal, a Canadian company available to association and employer groups only Product was researched and vetted by R7 representative to IB&SC, John Grefford; benchmarked against products offered by other Canadian engineering societies 15% less costly, or better, vs. non-group rates of other Canadian insurers

17 Challenges for IB&SC Sections Congress ’08 recommended that IEEE work to expand all benefits in more countries Buying power is a function of group size, so we have unequal opportunities in different countries Membership size and growth (in age groups) affects opportunities Group discounts are widely available --- where’s the unique benefit of IEEE membership?

18 Toolkit for Developing Benefits in Regions 7-10
IB&SC and Staff in Singapore and US collaborated on steps for developing benefits Assessing local needs Determining need for contract Legal review, tax implications IEEE governance and approval process Posted to the web, in volunteer resources in 2007 Need to update the content, and socialize the information around the world R7 example, The Personal, is a perfect model of the toolkit process

19 Considerations for FAP Enhancement
Continue to benchmark insurance products and identify new ones for Canada Develop a suite of software product discounts Examine new types of recreational, travel, social opportunities Develop needs assessment tools for Sections, to help identify desire for local/culturally relevant benefits Continue to promote existing benefits and improve visibility and awareness
