Firewalls with security features enabled likely will significantly reduce network performance
If you turn on packet inspection or any features on your firewall, be prepared for maximum throughput on your firewall to be in the 300 Mbps range (far less than gigabit speeds)

Note that adapters like a USB adapter will almost guarantee you will not achieve gigabit speeds, but they can improve upon 10/100 speeds
