1 Google Fiber for Small Business & Nonprofits
Net Friends receives special training from Google Fiber and is one of the select few companies in our local area who are authorized to help with installation and support of Google Fiber issues – we maintain close communication and contact with Google Fiber and have assigned account reps and escalation paths to report major issues

2 Google Fiber is coming soon

3

4 Being a Tech Partner means we are specially trained on the ins-and-outs of Google Fiber, are engaged at a higher level than other IT firms with the Google Fiber support staff, and are in an ideal position to connect local businesses with Google Fiber to take full advantage of fast internet.

5 Three options Enjoy lower prices and higher speeds from your current Internet Service Provider (ISP) Switch to Google Fiber when available, using existing network equipment Switch to Google Fiber and upgrade network equipment

6 Fast Internet is an Enabler
Telecommuting options Offsite backups and cloud-based Disaster Recovery Hosted VoIP telephony WebEx and GoToMeeting improvements General productivity and performance improvements

7 Google Fiber Considerations
No ETA at any location yet No Service Level Agreement (SLA) yet When SLA is provided, that option will be more $ Super fast speeds inside your business require upgrades Firewalls, routers, switches, WAPs, NICs Firewalls with security features enabled likely will significantly reduce network performance If you turn on packet inspection or any features on your firewall, be prepared for maximum throughput on your firewall to be in the 300 Mbps range (far less than gigabit speeds)

8 Potential Network Purchases
FortiGate 30D firewall $549 ($219/year renewal) Branch office or location with <10 people FortiGate 60D firewall $829 ($329/year renewal) Primary office

9 Potential Network Purchases
Ubiquiti UAC-Pro $199 each Wireless site survey needed Includes enterprise warranty, monitoring, patching, management

10 Potential Network Purchases
Ubiquiti Gigabit Switches 16-port: $339 24-port: $389 48-port: $879 HP Gigabit Switches 24-port: $609 48-port: $1079

11 Potential Network Purchases
Cables (CAT 6) $4 for 7’ cables Adapters $19: Internal workstation $25: USB universal adapter CAT6 Cable- 1’- $1.99, 3’-$2.99, 7’-$3.99, 14’- 5.99, 25’- $6.99, 50’- $14.99, 75’- $19.99 All wiring in older buildings should be inspected and possibly replaced if it was installed 10 years ago Note that adapters like a USB adapter will almost guarantee you will not achieve gigabit speeds, but they can improve upon 10/100 speeds

12 Google Fiber Changes Everything
Google Fiber will impact you Directly: lower your ISP costs, provide unlimited bandwidth, give you a competitive edge Indirectly: competition reduces ISP costs, some hosted or cloud services can be outsourced “Unlimited bandwidth” opens up new possibilities Telecommuting, hosted VOIP, video/streaming, collaboration, hosting…and undiscovered ideas!

13 Future Plans Avoid long-term ISP, Phone, or lease commitments
Plan ahead and budget for network upgrades Keep an open mind about cloud services Offsite data backups need to be a standard Speed and availability requirements will potentially no longer be a limiter to keeping all resources in-house
