Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

2 Introduction to Serco Serco is a leading provider of public services. It’s Employment, Skills and Enterprise business unit was selected by the Skills Funding Agency to manage the SSW programme in your region. Serco delivers the training through a network of high quality local training providers. In previous programmes we have supported over 1,500 businesses with training for their workforce and over 6,000 employees have benefited from our service. You can trust us to help your business grow too.

3 Skills support for the workforce
The programme is developed to upskill employees in small and medium sized businesses and individuals who are self-employed, Employed and unemployed within the past 6 months due to redundancy in Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly. We provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance skills, increase the competiveness of businesses and boost the local economy. We can work with businesses or individuals to develop a bespoke training programme relevant to the business needs. As this programme is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Skills Funding Agency (SFA), you can support your workforce at no extra cost to your business.

4 We have 2 programmes of support:
Skills Support for the Workforce in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Fully Funded Training courses to help individuals progress in their Career. Skills Support for the Workforce in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Fully Funded Training to help your business grow – Developed to upskill employees within small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

5 Benefits to employees and business:
We can support fully-flexible training; pick full qualifications or mix and match individual units to suit the business We can offer on-the-job vocational training to meet individual needs; including taught learning, workplace assessment, distance learning and online learning. The training is tailored to the specific needs of the business Greater Confidence in the workplace, career Progression and promotion It can be more cost-effective than hiring skilled employees It increases employee confidence, motivation and productivity It improves employee loyalty and retention by making them feel valued It is fully funded training – no cost to the business or employees!

6 Eligibility The learner has to be employed, self employed or made redundant or notice of redundancy within the past 6 months. The learner has to be eligible to work in the UK – evidence will be required The learner must be aged 16+ (no upper age restriction) The training has to be delivered within the LEP region and by one of the contracted SSW Training Providers Your organisation should to be an SME (less than 250 employees) We are not able to offer training to anyone that is already on an Apprenticeship

7 Types of training available
Basic (Functional Skills, Levels 1 – 2) Intermediate and Higher Level (Level 2 upwards) English Maths ESOL Basic ICT Basic First Aid Employability Cleaning Health and Social Care Hospitality, including food production, food service, beverage and bar service Business and Professional Services, including business improvement, reception, supervision and leadership, Personal development Warehousing and storage, including picking, loading, driving vehicles Manufacturing Operations Customer Service Digital and Creative, including, social media advertising, search engine and content marketing, managing networks Security and spectator safety Construction and Renewables Marine technology and Engineering

8 Please note that this list is not exhaustive and we will discuss specific training requirements with each individual employer through a Training Needs Analysis or Individual Learning Plan and conduct an eligibility check with employers and employees.
