1. The Technology Life Cycle
An alternative approach to the product life cycle theory.
The product passes through three time dependent stages:
Performance maximizing,
Sales maximizing, and
Cost minimizing
As time goes on, emphasis shifts from quick product change for performance improvement, to product enhancements and variations to boost sales, and finally to gaining cost efficiencies through standardization.
The product process changes from allowing adjustments to product specifications to being highly standardized.

Implications
Recognizing at the late stages of market maturity the potential threat of a new technology as early as possible, and to develop the appropriate strategic response (a radically new technology or making improvements in the old technology to keep it competitive).
