3 Mark Twain American, 1835-1910 on the teenage years.
"When a child turns 12 you should put him in a barrel, nail the lid down and feed him through a knot hole. “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around . . . When he turns 16, plug the hole!" When I got to be 21, I was astonished by how much he'd learned in seven years.”

10 Paradoxes of Parenting People in Puberty

11 1. Young adolescents: You can’t live with them
, and you can’t live without them. 2. Peers become more influential , but parents will always be the greatest influence. 3. After puberty they look older , but they are still very young and inexperienced. 4. Parenting is a full-time job , but take breaks to have fun and to listen without judging. 5. Young adolescents need opportunities for independence , but they need boundaries too. 6. Teenagers make poor choices and mistakes , but never make them feel they are bad people. 7. Set the bar high , but don’t be disappointed when they are unable to reach your expectations. 8. Always believe in your child , but you cannot always believe your child. 9. While you must teach them to look ahead , few decisions now are life-altering. 10. Your children will heed you, they’re just not on the same timetable. One day they too will say . . . “I sound just like my mother or father.”
