Catalysing innovation in EU agri-food and forestry: EIP-AGRI
GLB studiereis voor NL provincies Willemine Brinkman, EIP-AGRI Service Point Brussel, 12 Oktober 2016

EIP-AGRI in a nutshell Aim: To foster a competitive and sustainable agriculture and forestry sector that "achieves more from less“ Approach: Closing the innovation gap between research and practice by: using the interactive innovation model linking actors via the EIP Network The EIP AGRI is the agricultural European Innovation Partnership. It is one of the five EIPs set up by the European union. The EIP AGRI assists the agriculture and forestry sectors to become more productive and sustainable, and able to tackle challenges such as competition, volatile prices, environmental rules, and climate change. Within the EU, the EIP AGRI is directly supported by two policies/programmes: rural development and Horizon 2020. Approach = interactive innovation model (forming partnerships + using bottom-up approaches) + linking actors
3
Means to implement the EIP-AGRI
Horizon 2020 (EU Research Policy) Multi-actor research projects involving the agricultural community Thematic networks, unlocking and exchanging knowledge across the EU Rural Development Programmes Operational Groups Project funding Innovation support services EIP-AGRI Network European Union Research Policy (Horizon 2020) Funding research projects, also involving on-farm experiments, to enhance the knowledge base for innovation Interactive formats such as multi-actor projects or thematic networks Rural Development Programmes: Setting up "Operational Groups" (key actors of the EIP-AGRI) Combining project funding (investment, knowledge transfer, advisory services) with setting up Operational Groups Establishing "innovation support services", e.g. to facilitate the formation of Operational Groups

There is are huge differences between MS and regions when it comes to model, number of projects, priorities, selection process, funding as you can see from this slide.

The goal And what’s our goal?
Let me illustrate it for you: when a Romanian farmer has a problem and a Spanish researcher has a solution, we want to provide this information to the farmer asap So, this is our ambition: to support and link all actors busy with innovation in agriculture.
9
EIP-AGRI Network Sharing Knowledge – connecting people – tackling challenges
The European commission established the EIP AGRI service point in April 2013. The main aims of the Service Point are to connect people and facilitate innovation and knowledge exchange in agriculture. to build bridges between science and practice. EIP AGRI SP act as a mediator within the EIP AGRI network improving communication and cooperation between stakeholders It plays the role of helpdesk We are available to provide information or questions such as: Funding opportunities, Upcoming events organised by EIP-AGRI Information on Operational groups And many others issues related to EIP AGRI. For this : The EIP-AGRI Service Point organises events like: Focus Group Workshops Seminars And inform you through the newsletter, press, social media, website and events
10
EIP-AGRI Focus Groups as part of our regular activities, we are promoting Focus Groups, dealing with existing agricultural challenges. These FG have the objectives of: taking stock of the state of the art of practice and of research + identify needs from practice for further research and propose priorities for innovative actions FG bring together Practice and Research - exchange practical knowledge - Priorities for innovative actions Ideas for Operational Groups Research needs from practice = questions that would require more longer term research to find solutions Propose projects to test solutions
