What is the SMARTOUR online training tool?
Developed with the tourism industry to meet the training needs of the tourism industry across Europe For managers in the tourism sector For staff who would benefit from training (especially those with no previous knowledge) Develops knowledge in a number or areas, with a focus on sustainability Designed to be straightforward and accessible

What topics are available?
Accessibility Sustainable Supply Chains Sustainable Food and drink tourism Social media and marketing Seasonality Quality Training EU Quality Principles Energy Controls Interpreting Energy Bills Indoor Air Quality All modules have a quiz available at the end which will provide feedback You account keeps a record of which modules and quizzes you have completed Modules vary from 30 mins to 1 hour approx.

How to access the online training tool
You will need to register with the tool to access the contents Go to and create an account by following the “Log in” link in the top right corner of the screen

Creating an account Select the “Create new account” button on the Log in page Password needs upper and lowercase, a number and a special charter e.g. Complete the form to create the account (usernames should not include spaces and most fields are compulsory, marked with a *) Select the “Create my new account button at the bottom of the form You will be sent an to the address that you have provided on the form and will need to follow the link in the to complete set up of the account Note if you add your Organisation name this will be added to your certificate

The modules

Going to the modules Navigating back to the home page, select the link to “SMARTOUR MODULES” towards the bottom of the left-hand menu This takes you to a page that lists the modules – links are provided to module content and quizzes You can complete as many or few modules as you wish and they do not have to be completed in any particular order

Accessing module content
Select one of the module links – for example “Accessibility ¦ Module” This launches the module screen You will be guided through a series of screens after you select “Start” Some screens may contain links to further information or activity sheets – look out for these Modules are of differing lengths – it may take you longer to complete some than others

Working through the modules
You can navigate forwards and backwards through the module screens using the arrows on the right and left- hand sides Use the bars at the top left of the screen to navigate to a particular point on the module at any time – this also tells you where you are You can exit the activity at any point using the link to the top right above the screen

Taking the quiz and getting feedback
To take a quiz to test your knowledge of the module content choose Exit Activity in the top right of the screen. When you have completed the quiz, you can select another module and work through it in exactly the same way.

Generating a certificate
When you have completed a module and quiz you can generate a certificate. The certificate will list all the modules where you have completed the quiz.

Choosing you next module
When you have completed the quiz, you can select another module and work through it in exactly the same way – navigate to SMARTOUR Modules and choose your next topic
