People exercise their power by voting for their political representatives.

Power is divided between the federal government and the state governments.

Power is divided among 3 branches to keep the government limited.

7. Checks and Balances
Each branch can check, or control, the power of the other branches.

8. Limited Government
Everyone must obey the law, including all government officials.

9. Individual Rights
Each citizen has personal freedoms that are protected by the Bill of Rights.
