UDL Nederland | | 2016 UD(L) IN INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS CRDP: UD is part of UN convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006) → paradigm shift! WRD: UD mentioned in the World Report on Disability (2011) as an important strategy to fulfil rights. Note: WRD calls adaptation and specialized design as equally important strategies!

UDL Nederland | | 2016 NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY & UD(L): EUROPE In general UD(L) not mentioned in policy except Norway (2008). But UD(L) activities visible, e.g.: Spain: huge public – private partnership to strive for ‘universal accessibility’ (2011) Belgium: early adopter of UDL in HE due to activities of Siho (since 2011) The Netherlands: UDL a known concept mainly in HE due to activities H+S & UDL Nederland Ireland: UDL in HE due to activities AHEAD (UDL conference > 20 countries)

UDL Nederland | | 2016 NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY & UD(L): USA Legislation shifted more and more towards inclusion (IDEA, NCLB) Higher Education Opportunity Act (2008): Defines UDL and mentions it as a strategy to create inclusive education Every Student Succeeds Act (2015): states must use UDL to develop assessments, comprehensive literacy instruction and new technology must be in line with UDL principles

UDL Nederland | | 2016 ART. 27 OF CRPD ‘THE RIGHT TO WORK’ (1) WRD (2011): Employment rates lower for persons with disabilities due to several factors. EU: Employment Equality Directive (2000) converted to national laws by all EU-countries. Note: minimal requirements and accommodation approach. EDF (2010): Low level of awareness of disability rights and solutions.
