interest funds the Scholarship in perpetuity 2017 will be the 11th year that the scholarship is awarded scholarship value is R p.a. available to a South African citizen for study outside South Africa in any discipline at the internationally recognized University of their choice for a Postgraduate degree. excellence is the only criteria for selection. Laurie Dippenaar takes a personal interest in the selection process, as well as an interest in the ongoing progress of the recipient.

FirstRand Oxford African Studies Scholarship
collaboration between the FirstRand Foundation, the African Studies Centre and Wadham College at Oxford University funded 50% by African Studies Centre and 50% by the FirstRand Foundation full scholarship scholarship includes tuition fees, college fee and living costs (stipend) to complete a MSc in African Studies at Oxford University accommodation at Wadham College available to a South African citizen

Scholarship Criteria the successful candidates will have excelled academically in their chosen field of endeavour shown leadership qualities strength of character community minded endeavours; and the potential to be a destiny changer in his or her chosen field. candidates who are currently, or have been studying overseas for degree purposes, will not be considered for this scholarship the successful candidate has to return to South Africa for at least 5 years after completing his or her studies

Scholarships and Bursaries
FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship for Postgraduate Study: up to 2 x R FirstRand Foundation will fund an additional 3 Scholarships: up to 3 x R FirstRand Oxford African Studies Scholarship: full scholarship assistance from Oppenheimer memorial trust

The Process the application forms will be available on from end Nov 2016 applications will open on Friday 16 December 2016 and close Thursday 23 February 2017 applicants are evaluated by a panel comprised of senior staff in FirstRand, RMB, FNB, TSI and previous winners of the scholarship, as well as Prof Shireen Hassim from Wits University each application is reviewed by at least 3 panellists a preliminary ‘long list’ of around 40 applications are selected to be interviewed either in person or per telephone specialists are asked for their opinion if necessary final shortlist of around 10 candidates are selected and invited to Sandton for the final interview final announcement made before the end of May 2017
