Explanation of priorities charts
The next 3 charts show the relative priority given to each of the 22 statements which respondents were asked to rate. Interpreting the bar charts The numbers at the end of each bar show the percentage of respondents who place that item in the top third of their preferences, minus the percentage who place it in their bottom third. If a bar projects to the right, the respondents favour that item. If the bar projects to the left, the item is regarded as unimportant. The “least significant differences” (LSDs) quoted give the minimum figure by which any two values must differ in order for the difference to be statistically significant at the various levels of confidence shown in the inset.

Main priorities More online journals is the most important. The next four have roughly equal weight. Many journals have been migrated from print to online. The LIS collection development policy supports extending this migration. There are budgetary constraints on purchasing additional online journals but awareness of InterLibrary Loans and use of other libraries could be increased. Students wanted longer short loan periods and loan periods for journals. A review of loan periods will take into account the requirements of all library users. The last two priorities in this chart will be addressed with new leaflets and an improved alerting service.
