Applying to our Program (June 1 through February 1)
Fulfill all academic prerequisites Take the Dental Admission Test (DAT) and send scores directly from the Dental Association (either American or Canadian) AADSAS Application: Apply through the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) including submittal of all official transcripts, DAT scores and letters of recommendation. Once your AADSAS application is received by the UDM Office of Dental Admissions, an acknowledgement will be sent to you via University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry Supplemental Application: Submit a passport size (2"x2") photo with your signature on the back (for identification purposes), and a supplemental application fee of $ (U.S. funds), made payable to "UDM School of Dentistry" by money order

DDS Program – Preparation Prerequisite Courses
You must complete a MINIMUM of the following: 6 semester hours English 8 semester hours Biology 8 semester hours Inorganic/General Chemistry 8 semester hours Organic Chemistry 8 semester hours Physics 3-4 semester hours Microbiology 3-4 semester hours Biochemistry All science courses include laboratory component

Selection Criteria DAT
Note: DAT scores older than two years from the time of the test are not acceptable GPA BCP (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) Science Cumulative Grades of C or higher are expected in prerequisite courses; however, high B grades or higher are truly more competitive. Difficulty of Curriculum (15-18 credit hours/heavily-weighted in the biological sciences) Achievement Within a Challenging Curriculum (dissect curriculum/achievements) Academic Improvement (within a challenging science curriculum)

Selection Criteria Personal Statement Letters of Recommendation
A composite letter of recommendation is required from the applicant's college/university pre-professional advisory committee. OR minimum of two letters from science faculty within non plant or non-environmental disciplines of biology, chemistry or physics - by whom the candidate has been instructed AND A letter from a practicing dentist that you have shadowed Extracurricular Activities/Community Service Leadership Roles Motivation for Pursuing Profession Minimum of 60 hours shadowing a General Dentist Fitness for the Profession/Ethics & Values

Curriculum DS1: Biomedical sciences, clinical experiences, dental sciences, ethics, preclinical courses DS2: Preclinical courses, behavioral sciences, biomedical sciences, patient care experiences. D3 Clinic/patient care experiences, courses series in pediatrics, oral surgery, periodontics, pharmacology, endodontics, ethics and others. DS4: Clinic/patient care and offsite experiences, implants practice management, electives. *Continue to build on foundation courses

Dental School Academics
Academic rigor/high expectations. Three terms for each academic year (Fall, Winter, Summer) 40+ hours/week of coursework, pre-clinic/clinical activities and studying. Faculty include: Dentists Scientists Dental Hygienists Other providers eg.: RN, psychologist

Clinical Experiences Pre-clinical experiences, in conjunction with didactic courses, prepare the student to provide comprehensive dental care to a broad range of patients Clinics include: Corktown Campus University Health Center Outreach rotations eg. Community based and Flint Mobile Van 8-foot mobile dental coach, which is an eight chair clinic; four chairs are inside of the van and four chairs are portable units that are set-up on-site, on-location. Throughout the academic year, the clinic travels to local participating schools in Detroit and Wayne County to provide comprehensive care for K-12 children. Treatment is performed by dental students under supervision of a licensed dentist and/or dental hygienist faculty.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is a newly created office that falls under the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management The office has two full time staff Interim Director of Diversity and Inclusion Director of Diversity, Intercultural, and Sponsored Programs Our roles here at the School of Dentistry Recruitment Programming for Students, Staff, and Faculty Pre-Dental Pipeline Programs Cultural Competency Training Creating a More Inclusive Environment

Summer Enrichment Program
The Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) provides educational and professional development experiences for underrepresented minorities (URM) and/or disadvantaged students so that they can successfully gain admission into dental school and pursue a career in Dentistry. SEP is a 4-week residential program that provides free housing and DAT preparation, and a stipend to cover food and travel expenses. The components of SEP include: Preparation for the Dental Admission Test (provided by Kaplan Test Prep) Personalized assistance with the dental school application process Admissions and financial aid workshops Interview preparation Hands-on Simulation Laboratory activities Observations in the dental clinic and/or other primary care sites Conversations with faculty about dental specialties Academic success, professional development, and cultural competency seminars Networking events with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and local dental professionals Complimentary social outings including tours of Detroit, and trips to museums and sporting events.
