1 Religious Studies Part 1 : Download a Specification A Level AS Level Only Part 2a : Making Notes Watch This: It’s a very interesting video about the Teleological argument for God’s existence. While you watch it, make sure you jot down the key points. Try to divide your notes into different sections. For example, the first bit of the video explains the argument itself, while the later parts deal with points which both support and criticise the ideas put forward. Then use the internet to research deeper into the argument. Wikipedia is a great place to start, and you can even read all of the William Paley book here: Part 2b : Ensure Meaning and Engagement While you watch, be sure to jot down any terms you are not familiar with - then look them up, and make sure you know why they are used and how they help explain the argument. For example, in this video, the following terms are mentioned: Inductive Synthetic Analogy Teleology Purpose Exhibiting Assume Implies Complexity Refute Make sure you know what these mean, as they will help you to demonstrate your grasp of the topic.

2 Religious Studies Part 3 : Exam Style Questions In RS essays you have to create a mixture of AO1 points (which explain the knowledge and explanation aspect of a topic), and AO2 points (which evaluate the issue in question on both sides and reach a conclusion.) For the AS Level exam at the end of the first year this balance is 50/50, but for the A Level exam at the end of the two year course it will change to 40/60 requiring more evaluation points. Have a go at answering this AS Level question: Assess the effectiveness of William Paley in arguing for the existence of God. 30 marks A good answer is one which explains Paley’s points as clearly as possible and then discusses their validity on both sides. Try to outline the arguments of other philosophers also. The ones mentioned in the video are especially helpful: Bertrand Russell Richard Swinburne David Hume Thomas Aquinas Charles Darwin Also try: John Stuart Mill Richard Dawkins Up to 3 sides of A4 should do it justice. Write in your own style. Try to explain things clearly. Avoid copying or pasting from the internet. Good luck!
